Vampire Facial

The vampire facial, also known as microneedling with PRP, is a cosmetic procedure that involves drawing blood from your arm, separating platelets and applying them back onto your face. This procedure has many benefits, including younger looking skin, and is only gaining in popularity.
vampire facial is simply a microneedling treatment with the addition of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). PRP treatments are often used to support wound healing in trauma and joining injury, but they can also enhance hair restoration and other cosmetic procedures. PRP contains various growth factors that speed up the healing process and enhance the results of micro-needling.

PRP is a 3-step procedure that involves a dermatologist drawing blood, placing it into a machine that separates the platelets from the rest of your blood, and re-injecting or applying topically the blood that contains a high concentration of platelets into the patient’s face or scalp. When we opt for injections, we’re usually targeting areas, such as deep folds or acne scars, where the patient is looking for correction or improvement. When we apply the PRP topically, we usually spread it over the entire face. The procedure usually takes 45 minutes to an hour.

What does a vampire facial treat?

A vampire facial is one of the many treatments patients turn to for facial rejuvenation. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian popularized the treatment by boasting about its results. PRP treatments often result in younger-looking skin by reducing wrinkles, plumping up sagging skin, improving one’s complexion, and diminishing acne scars.

What to expect after your vampire facial

While it is still relatively new to the dermatology world, PRP has proven to be extremely promising, and a lot of patients are seeing incredible results. Adding PRP to your microneedling treatment often yields quicker and more visible results. You can see the results of a vampire facial within a few weeks, but the results are more noticeable after 6 months and can last up to 18 months.

Following the procedure, you may experience pain, bruising, and swelling, but the downtime is minimal. Vampire facial results are not permanent, so maintenance treatments are recommended at least once a year.

All in all, vampire facials are not as scary as they sound and are a great way to see results fast.
